To paraphrase Mary McAleese, this article is not just another journey down a well-travelled path. The destinies of the Clann members we will commemorate on this webpage were doubly tragic. They fell victim to a war against oppression in Europe. Their memory too fell victim to a war for independence at home in Ireland.
On February 15, we commemorated the 106th anniversary of the passing of Second Lieutenant Ernest Harold Coleman who lost his life in the Ypres Salient (Belgium). His remains were never found and he is remembered at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
The cross pictured below was laid on panel 42 where the name of the late Ernest Harold Coleman has been carved into stone.
Please note that the poppy on the cross represents the poppies found growing on soldiers' graves in Flanders Fields. It is not a political statement of any sort.
