Letter to members announcing the results of the EGM poll

A chara uasal,

In accordance with the provisions of the Companies Act 1963, as amended, and in accordance with the Articles of Association of the Constitution of Clans of Ireland, the Board of Directors of Clans of Ireland resolved, on the 30th of July 2022, to convene an extraordinary general meeting of Clans of Ireland to consider proposals that had been made by the Registrar, Michael P. Crowley, to the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors adopted the proposals and consequently unanimously recommended that Members vote in favour of the resolutions at the Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled to be held on Monday, 5th of September 2022 at 12.00 noon. The Extraordinary General Meeting was adjourned because a quorum was not present on the 5th of September 2022 to 12.00 on Monday, 12 September 2022 at the same address, when the following proposals to the members present were considered and voted upon.

  1. That an Admissibility Threshold Date as a prerequisite to determining eligibility to the Register of Clans of Ireland be inserted into the Constitution of Clans of Ireland.

  2. That 1691 is ratified as the Admissibility Threshold Date, the date that is considered to mark the end of the clan system in Irish society.

  3. That the decisions made by the Board over the years relating to the admission of all new members since the establishment of the previously used ad hoc admissibility threshold dates remain valid and that the status of all current members remains and will remain unchanged, ceteris parabis.

I, as Cathaoirleach, outlined in my address to the members (attached) the considerations that had been given to various dates in Irish history prior to the mid-nineteenth century that were deemed worthy of consideration and why it had been agreed to recommend the date of 1691.

There followed a general discussion on the three proposals by the members present before a poll of those present. Cathaoir Ó Tighearnaigh, former Cathaoirleach and former Rúnai na Cuideachta, having been appointed as the Returning Officer conducted the election and count, including the votes by proxy. The results were as follows:

  1. That an Admissibility Threshold Date as a prerequisite to determining eligibility to the Register of Clans of Ireland be inserted into the Constitution of Clans of Ireland.

I would like to thank the members who voted and particularly those who attended, especially those who travelled from abroad. I am also pleased that the members have conclusively demonstrated that you are in agreement with the three proposals. The Constitution will now be amended in compliance with the wishes of the members.

I would also like to acknowledge the generosity of Dr Vincent O’Carroll for facilitating the venues for both the 5th and 12th of September.

Is mise le meas, Gearóid Ó Ceallaigh Cathaoirleach Finte na hÉireann
